Comparison Content and AI Answers: What It Can Change, and What to Fix on Your Own Site
Brand promotion: this article introduces Guangsuan's global brand-word GEO service. It is a vendor-introduction piece, not an independent review or a commissioned evaluation.
B2B teams are often told that comparison or "versus" pages help with AI answers. Two separate jobs get bundled into that advice. One is structural: turning two options into a statement a system can lift without guessing. The other is about the site behind the options: whether the company name, the product facts and the official domain can be checked at all. This article answers one question — what comparison content can and cannot do for AI answers, and which brand facts to fix on your own site first — and then describes what Guangsuan's global brand-word GEO service covers. It is written for marketing and website leads whose buyers now ask an AI assistant about the brand before or after they visit the site.
Direct answer
Comparison content has no separate AEO or AI ranking factor, and no platform publishes a formula that turns a table into an AI citation. What a well-built comparison page can do is make one statement easy to reuse: when both options are measured on the same dimension, in the same unit, under the same condition, and the page states which option suits which buyer, a system can lift that line without inventing context. What it cannot do is determine whether a given answer engine cites the page in a particular language, market or model version. The controllable part is whether the comparison is extractable and trustworthy; the selection is not yours to command.
Two conditions belong with that answer. The comparison has to sit on a page that is indexed and eligible to be shown in Google Search with a snippet; Google states that there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode and that no other special optimizations are necessary, while also stating that indexing and serving are not guaranteed even when a page meets every stated requirement. And the facts inside the comparison have to exist on a source the brand can correct — that means the brand's own pages, not the third-party table that quotes them.
What comparison content can and cannot change
- It can make a product difference reusable: a reader can lift one row and still be correct.
- It can give an answer engine a stated verdict instead of leaving it to infer a winner from prose.
- It can support queries that need comparison, which Google describes as one of the situations where AI Mode is useful.
- It cannot create a score to raise. There is no "AEO score" that improves because a table was added, and no way to buy a citation.
- It cannot substitute for official facts. A comparison that measures two options on a property the brand has never documented still leaves the reader without a source.
Four conditions that make a comparison reusable
| Condition | What it requires | Where it breaks |
|---|---|---|
| Same dimension | Both columns describe the same property | One column rated at peak, the other on a continuous scale |
| Same unit | One unit per row, with a converted value if a reader needs it | Millimetres on one row and inches on the next |
| Same condition | The test or operating point sits beside the number | A bare figure with no basis stated |
| Stated verdict | Names which option suits which buyer, and when neither does | Leaves the reader to pick a winner and guess the criteria |
One condition sits outside the table: scope. Two items belong in the same comparison only if a buyer could realistically substitute one for the other. A component and a fully assembled system may share a parameter and still not be comparable.
Which brand facts to fix on your own site first
Order matters here, because a comparison page is downstream of the facts it compares. Three groups are worth settling before any outreach work begins.
- Identity. The legal name, the brand name, approved short forms and retired names, and the official domain each one points to. If pages alternate between a group name, a factory name and the trading brand, a reader cannot tell which entity is answering.
- Product facts. Specifications with their units, the operating or test condition attached to each number, and the service scope with its applicable conditions. Guangsuan describes this as returning product specifications, service scope and applicable conditions to a page that can be checked, with a clear source for corrections once an error is found.
- Official-source pages. The pages a buyer would check after a first introduction — about, product, service, contact and brand Q&A — with every statement traceable to an official source.
One distinction is worth keeping separate from all of it. Being mentioned and being cited are two different results: a brand can appear in an answer by name while no link to its official page is shown. Guangsuan's page separates the two and adds a further check — whether the page carrying the citation can actually support the specific information in the answer.
How to check whether the fix changed anything
The check is plain, and it is the same one whether you run it yourself or commission it.
- Write down a fixed set of questions about brand identity, product facts and the official domain. Keep the wording unchanged between rounds.
- Record the platform, the connected or non-connected mode, the language and the date, because the same question can return a different answer under different conditions.
- Record three outcomes separately: whether the brand was mentioned, whether it was explicitly recommended, and whether the official site was cited.
- Fix the conflicting fact at its source first, then re-test under the same conditions rather than a new question set.
What this produces is a record of observations, not a ranking. It tells you whether the facts you can control are consistent and whether the official page is being used as a source — it does not prove that a given answer will stay the same.
Where Guangsuan fits
Guangsuan (光算) publishes a global brand-word GEO service aimed at the AI search used in a target market, organised as four parts: website technical adaptation, brand entity building, official material completion, and brand Q&A re-testing and correction. Its page states a deliverable for each part — a code and configuration change list with access and rendering test records; a brand fact list, entity relationships and markup verification records; an agreed set of key pages with a gap list and a client-confirmed version of the facts; and answer snapshots with citation URLs and a deviation record.
Its verification section records three results separately: whether the brand was identified correctly, whether the facts were stated accurately, and whether the correct official site was cited — each with the full answer and its source. The stated boundary is as useful as the scope. Guangsuan says being crawlable is not the same as being cited, and that it does not promise every platform will permanently give the same answer about a brand. The first project is described as agreed changes, launch and staged re-testing inside a 90-day service period, rather than a fixed date on which an AI answer will change. If you want the writing mechanics behind the table rows themselves, Guangsuan's English article on comparison content and AEO visibility covers the structure in more detail.
Frequently asked questions
Does comparison content raise AI-search rankings?
No platform describes it that way. Google states that there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode and that no other special optimizations are necessary. What a clean comparison changes is how easily one statement can be reused; whether it is reused is decided elsewhere.
Should we publish the comparison page before fixing our own site?
Only if the underlying facts are already consistent. If the site carries two versions of a specification, the comparison inherits the same conflict and gives a reader no way to choose between them. Settle identity, product facts and the official pages first, then write the comparison from that confirmed material.
Can a provider guarantee that an AI answer will cite our page?
Guangsuan does not promise that, and its page states the reason: arranging for content to be crawlable is not the same as being cited. What can be agreed is the work — which pages, which question sample, which platforms, how many re-tests, and what happens if an agreed target is missed.
What is a sensible first step if we have never recorded AI answers before?
Pick a small fixed set of questions your buyers actually ask, run them once under stated conditions, and record what came back, including the cases where the brand was not mentioned at all. Then fix one conflicting fact on your own site and repeat the same questions. The first round is a baseline; only comparable later rounds tell you anything.
